FALLS FESTIVAL HAS BEEN SAVED!

A donation from internet entrepreneur and philanthropist Graeme Wood has guaranteed the Falls Festival in Marion Bay will go ahead this year.

As we reported a few months back, the Tasmanian leg of the festival had been in doubt after organisers revealed they needed $350,000 funding from the State government to secure the future of the event.

But the team behind Falls have now revealed Graeme Wood AM, who co-founded wotif.com and music website We Are Hunted, has come through with a one-off donation.

“If we hadn’t have been able to procure the support, whether it be Government or private sector, it would have made it very difficult to stage, Falls organiser Simon Daly told the ABC’s Tyson Shine.

Daly won’t say how much Wood gave them to help make up the $350,000 shortfall though.

“The amount is confidential. Graeme Wood is very committed to the running of the festival ongoing and certainly has that vision. It’s his one-year-at-a-time, but certainly all indications are very positive.”

It’s not the first time Wood has shown a philanthropic side. In 2010, he gave the largest donation in Australia political history - $1.6 million - to the Greens.

This year Falls in Marion Bay will celebrate its 10th anniversary. You should expect to see the first line up for the festival around August.
