great article on the rise of female sluts in the music industry. hipster or just plain provocative?
for those who love jay z, those who love barclays and those like a doco.
a documentary on jay z going back to brooklyn to play eight shows in the new barclays stadium with a dope stage. nice balance of jay z-ness and barclays branding. content worth watching.
favourite moment in the doco: the old lady on the tube.
where i’m from - jay z and barclays
flume’s debut album. killing it.
one of the stand outs - holdin’ on.
FALLS FESTIVAL HAS BEEN SAVED!
As we reported a few months back, the Tasmanian leg of the festival had been in doubt after organisers revealed they needed $350,000 funding from the State government to secure the future of the event.
But the team behind Falls have now revealed Graeme Wood AM, who co-founded wotif.com and music website We Are Hunted, has come through with a one-off donation.
“If we hadn’t have been able to procure the support, whether it be Government or private sector, it would have made it very difficult to stage, Falls organiser Simon Daly told the ABC’s Tyson Shine.
Daly won’t say how much Wood gave them to help make up the $350,000 shortfall though.
“The amount is confidential. Graeme Wood is very committed to the running of the festival ongoing and certainly has that vision. It’s his one-year-at-a-time, but certainly all indications are very positive.”
It’s not the first time Wood has shown a philanthropic side. In 2010, he gave the largest donation in Australia political history - $1.6 million - to the Greens.
This year Falls in Marion Bay will celebrate its 10th anniversary. You should expect to see the first line up for the festival around August.
thanks to snow-blind for pointing out there is a fourth previous song:
Santigold, Julian Casablancas, N.E.R.D produced by Pharrell Williams “My Drive Thru”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPZ5fnYFI4Q
looking forward to this collaboration.
converse announced this morning that they are creating another ‘3 artists, 1 track’ project with A-Track, Kimbra and Mark Foster (from Foster The People): http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/a-trak-kimbra-and-mark-foster-team-up-for-new-song-20120327
converse have produced three other tracks within the ‘3 Artists, 1 Track’ project since august last year:
Gorillaz, Andre 3000 and James Murphy “Do Ya Thing”: http://www.journeys.com/pluginto/
Best Coast, Kid Cudi and Vampire Weekend “All Summer”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COrv0PIg-Z4
Matt and Kim, Soulja Boy and Andrew WK “I’m a Goner”: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h_-hUgXlMAk
the artists seem to be given free reign to create their own song (in the Best Coast case it was considered a bit of a failure) and the songs are available for free download for a limited period of time. the launch of the song usually coincides with the launch of a new shoe or event, such as a converse’s anniversary. there isn’t any brand promotions or advertising that I can see, it’s just purely riding off PR by using big name artists.
pretty cool project. looking forward to the new one due out April 5.
OK Go - Needing/Getting
cool video clip from a band that is renowned for their clips. not about the music. all about the clip.
some tunes for the most hectic week at work in a while.
liking triple j’s website design and interface for hottest 100 this year. the only part i think they need to work on, is browsing songs. there are always so many songs that i forget about or forget what they are called. maybe a random video or music player?
babybird ft. johnny depp.
i cant say im usually a fan of the actor slash singer thing. what i kind of like about this is johnny depp isn’t trying to be something he is not. to me, it kind of feels like an extension of his acting roles. dark, mysterious and strangely inviting.
